About the Corporation

Bihar State Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited

The Bihar State Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (BSHPC) was established in 1982 as a Government of Bihar undertaking under the provisions of the Companies Act. The primary objective of the Corporation is to plan, develop, finance, establish, and operate all forms of renewable energy projects in the State, including hydroelectric, solar, wind, biomass, and other renewable energy sources.

At present, the Corporation is successfully operating 13 hydroelectric power projects with a combined installed capacity of 54.30 MW. In addition, 9 hydroelectric projects with a total capacity of 7.20 MW are under construction. The operational projects are contributing significantly to the enhancement of power generation within the State, while the completion of the on-going projects will further strengthen Bihar’s energy capacity.

To ensure efficient transmission of generated electricity, the Corporation is also developing a Stable Power Evacuation System, which will facilitate the seamless integration of power generated from these projects into the grid.

BSHPC is actively exploring opportunities for future hydroelectric development. Based on surveys conducted in the Gandak, Burhi Gandak, and Mahananda river basins, several potential hydroelectric projects have been identified with an aggregate proposed capacity of approximately 160 MW. The preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these projects is proposed as the next step toward their implementation.
